10 Years of Touts

We just pushed out a quiet little update to our homepage. Nothing world-changing, just a nice refresh to help establish what Panic is all about for first-time visitors.

(I had far more elaborate plans for the homepage — at one point involving building actual sets, no joke — but after so many years of “I’m sure we can get to it next week!”, and after building up so much internal pressure that everything we do has to be earth-shattering, it felt great for me to sit down and do something quick, simple, and fun. Lesson learned.)

In prepping the new page, I moved the old images out of the way. And that’s when I realized we had something interesting:

A collection of little rotating “tout” graphics we had at the top of the old site.

The oldest modification date? 2002 — 10 years ago.

Through these touts, you can basically see everything we’ve done over the last 10 years. The passage of time generally freaks me out, so it’s a little overwhelming for me to see these all in one place, but it’s also kind of nice and comforting to see that, man, we’ve done a lot of stuff.

So here’s my life in 560 × 91. I hope you enjoy it. What’s next?

Ahh, I have fond memories of every single one of these. Great times!

No idea who you guys are (I’m not a Mac person), followed a Twitter link here on a boring Friday afternoon.

But I have to say that’s a pretty neat retrospective, all-in-all. Nice work.

I still kinda miss Audion.

Look at all those pixels! Just think, if you had a Retina Display those touts wouldn’t be nearly as nice!

You all rock.

I love the consistent attention and passion for detail. Can’t wait for the next 10! Stay awesome!

Aww, click and drag downloading is gone! Oh well. It looks very nice even though it’s still simple. I’m a fan of simple. :)

Hate to be a nitpicking nerd, but 91 × 560? You meant 560 x 91 right? ;)

Great job guys, you make awesome products!

Foo: Fixed. ;)

Have I really been using Coda since 2007?
Yikes!
Congrats!

PANIC SALE

This collection of banners makes me realize that I would be hard pressed to think of another indie developer I’ve given more of my money to over the years, and I certainly can’t think of any others where I’ve had so little regret over doing so.

Here’s hoping your next ten years produce at least as much awesome stuff.

Nice, you guys do excellent work.

Congrats on your accomplishments! I use Coda and Transmit often, keep pushing the creativity.

Greatest indie software company in the world. I’ve been a fan since day one.

No tout for Transit? :-)

Absolute props for having your own non-stupid comments system that doesn’t involve logging into some other piece of crap.

Congratulations! We love Coda!!

I use both Unison and Coda nearly every day. Transmit less now that Coda does most of the FTP I need. And I still remember the glee I experienced with Audion being the first Mac OS X app I owned that had non-rectangular windows. Congratulations on your first decade!

Bravissimi!

Believe it or not, I’ve used Audion 3 until I updated to Lion. I know it’s out of the question, but if you guys released an Intel version of Audion, I would gladly re-purchase it.

Cheers!

Ditto RICK’s remark. Make a new Audion, I’ll buy it too. Well, that’s TWO!

Seeing this illustrated timeline (which pretty accurately reflects the tastes of the times) confirmed what I’ve been thinking for a couple of years: Let’s go back to the 2005-2007 design sensibilities when presentations were cool and everything didn’t look like the decor of a pachinko parlor.

Nice look back in time. What I would really love to see from Panic is a nice (affordable) CD/DVD/ImageFile Burning app. Toast has been nothing more than re-skinned bloatware for nearly 10 years and there really isn’t a decent competing product.

I too would purchase Audion 4.

I still rock Audion on SL…Audion 4 would rock the universe!

YES!! Audion 4! I’ll buy it too. Come on, you must admit it… that would be the most awesomestest thing ever.

Panic is the best! I love the memories and I hope to continue using your products everyday for the rest of my life!

Patiently waiting for the new Unison. Panic forever.

how about a kickstarter page for audion 4? is that even allowable?

WE. WANT. AUDION. WE. WANT. AUDION.

Wait a second. We actually want Coda 2. I just got distracted.

Wow! I’ve been using Coda for five years. Time for an upgrade perhaps ;)

Most all of us are waiting for Coda 2 :)

From Russia with love :)

Well done guys!

Amazed that it’s been so long that I’ve been using Coda! I remember the day I bought it and then Transmit and the Tee-shirts! All the best for the future!

Audion was you? Whoa! I remember how I love that app… But then I ditch you for SoundJam That app really rock the house! audion was way behind it at the time. Both were good!

We’re all waiting for Coda 2! It’s time to be serious guys!

Guys! Don’t distract them! If there’s anything we know about indie devs it’s that they’re easily distracted. Coda 2… Coda 2… Coda 2….

I know how you guys know how you can make your games and publish them. First go find a good picture for your label.
Candybar for example, go to Labelmaker2600.com & type out your game label, game name, Copyright lines, image,
Select your “360DPI” option And save your labels to your Desktop. To publish them, go to Atariage.com (make sure you’re in the “Store Section” area scroll all the way down click custom atari 2600 cartridge place your order (Cost over $20 if you’re willing) then go click the link on the “blank cartridge” page click Sales@atariage attach 3 files Game.bin, Main label (picture) top label (game name) and you wait for it to come.

Please make Atari games like you did with Candybar. You can do it. You made screen shots of games on the back of your Atari game boxes. Cool stuffs

+ It would be cool to make boxes for Diet Coda, Audion, and Prompt

I think I’ve owned everything except Audion and Transmit 1.0. As a matter of fact, Transmit was one of the very first apps I bought after I purchased my first Mac, 10 years ago.

I have to say, you guys are my favorite software company.

PS: The only thing that would make you guys even better is if you could bring Stattoo back, it was way better than Dashboard! :)

i am so touched to see how Panic made this page. You guys pay a lot lot efforts more than other software company. you record the history in such beautiful layout. and when i hover around, it shows the date of each event. love panic.

For city travel it’s very easy to duck under awnings or into shops, making bulkier rain gear unnecessary. Sturdier rain gear or umbrellas are only needed for places where you expect serious rain or a lack of quick access to shelter. States taking part in the settlement are: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

That’s cleared my thoughts. Thanks for conuribtting.
