I got an e-mail from Kenichi, our 3D icon master in Japan, the other day:
“I’m learning and trying a new lightings. HDRI map + system light sources. It’s great, but sometimes does not work for icon design.”
He sent along three images that I thought you’d enjoy seeing. You’ve probably never seen the Transmit truck from these angles!

12/2/2011 4:22 PMWhat does the back look like?
Bruce
12/2/2011 4:23 PMWow!!!! I want it!
Eric Dobson
12/2/2011 4:42 PMCome on… there’s gotta be enough interest to produce a limited edition die cast keychain or something…
Chris
12/2/2011 4:48 PMWhat’d Kenichi use to make that? Max? Maya? Something else? It looks awesome & I’m with Eric Dobson … I’d totally buy a keychain or some cool wee desk ornament in the shape of the Panic truck. By the way, Coda keeps crashing, what do I do? Just kidding – my comment is totally being awesome. :)
jim
12/2/2011 4:50 PMthat’s pretty cool. maybe you could bring it to life with one of those 3d printers.
now back to work on coda 2 please! ;)
Jon
12/2/2011 4:54 PMKeychain or (in keeping with the country of origin) cell-phone strap!
Bruce
12/2/2011 4:56 PMHear, hear! Get us a keychain!
ryan
12/2/2011 5:02 PMwhy is that one rivet missing?

12/2/2011 5:21 PMFantastic!
Can we get a .stl file of that and run it through a 3D printer, such as Shapeways? Or a limited edition vinyl like the Iconfactory twitter bird?
Christopher Beckwith
12/2/2011 5:34 PMBeautiful. I’d love a matchbox size version for my desk. I also was curious on what software was used and why the side is missing one screw. I setup email notification for any Panic posts in hopes of knowing the second Coda 2.0 details are revealed. Have a great weekend guys!

12/2/2011 6:07 PMA Transmit Truck toy is a must! Do it for Joby! You need a hot-wheels sized one and a tonka sized one and I’d buy both from the Panic store!
Eric Peacock
12/2/2011 10:47 PMChris: as I use it a lot for design work, I can’t help but think that those look like Cinema 4D renders. I recall hearing Kenichi use it, but can’t be sure. Either way those have that look.
Nice clean modeling there too.

12/3/2011 12:28 AMI have a toy cabinet that won’t be complete until I have one of these.

12/3/2011 5:43 AMThere’s another three for the ripoff express to have to keep track of. Honestly I don’t know why you guys publish stuff at all ;)
waldo
12/3/2011 6:59 AMloving how it looks like modeling clay. Can we get a kickstart going for a toy version
David Perkins
12/3/2011 9:56 AMI would definitely buy one of these if it was produced as a vinyl toy. I bought the Twitterrific ollie toy that The Iconfactory made… this is another awesome toy to add to my collection :) Please make it!
Rafael Rinaldi
12/3/2011 11:54 AMWhoa! Really cool.

12/3/2011 4:25 PMWho knew a FTP client could be so much fun? I would like to buy one for my desk please.
Art Delano
12/3/2011 6:40 PMI’d like one that’s just big enough to haul a Utah teapot.
Ken
12/4/2011 1:05 PMMan, now I want the truck to be doing a power slide stop. Every FTP transfer should evoke the Transporter.
Chris
12/5/2011 10:56 AMWow – that’s just awesome. A die cast version would be epic.
Brian Dusablon
12/5/2011 10:25 PMHell yeah, that’s sweet. I would definitely be in for a model, toy, or print.
Steve Adams
12/9/2011 9:55 AMThis is rad! The missing screw, though. Can’t not see it.

12/14/2011 4:29 PMHow about an order page on http://www.shapeways.com so we can print the 3D Models?
Just did this with pilot’s wings for an aviation concern and got great results. The thin flexible plastic took paint well.

12/15/2011 3:35 AMthe rear wheal is touching the cargo compartment. not good for bumpy road :D
back to the drawing board.
Chris
1/8/2012 7:50 PMEric: Cool, cheers. I thought maybe Max since my material-less models end up looking a lot like that (with the default key lights turned on). Thanks for replying. :)

2/13/2012 9:14 AMWhat a truck! But, where is side mirror?

4/26/2012 4:59 PMI really appreciate the Transmit icon, It’s such a great icon. I didn’t realise until seeing this blog post that it was designed as a 3D model, thought somebody has some amazing Illustrator skills. A Transmit truck USB drive would be cool, it could unload or load (Transmit) information into the back of the truck and stand nicely connected to my MacBook. It could even have moving wheels to drive in and out of the USB port. Ideas are flowing, couldn’t help myself.

4/29/2012 5:54 PMAs someone who races my car, I find it absolutely 100% awesome that the Transmit truck is apparently sporting Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires. They’re the best all-around street/wet autocross and light track use tire for sports cars. Grippy as hell, but I’m not sure how they’d work on your truck!

4/30/2012 2:58 AMHey here is an interesting truck out there :D

5/22/2012 12:27 PMThere’s no side mirror because coders never look back. It’s always full speed ahead.
My question is: Why is there no Panic logo on the side? And why do I not have a tiny toy version of it on my desk yet?
Dmitry
5/11/2014 1:20 AMHi. Nice auto …

Is it possible to get a copy of Transmit and manually input the serial number? Where can i get it if it real?
